Craner Classics are delighted to offer this 1953 Austin A40 Somerset, finished in Windsor Green with a dark tan leather interior and the now rare sunroof model.

The car is in excellent condition with a rock solid chassis. Originally painted in Buckingham Green, the car is now finished in Windsor Green.

The paintwork and chrome work are both in very good order, as the photos show, and the interior has stood the test of time commendably, with the dashboard, door cards and comfortable leather seats all very impressive. The interior has a reassuringly cosy feel, and the sunroof adds to the car's allure on day trips.

This A40 Somerset is acompanied by its original Owners Handbook and Service Manual together with a framed history of the car, once owned by Ray Dawes from the Austin Counties Car Club, who sadly passed away a number of years ago. The Roadster's mohair roof is similarly flawless, and the chromework is in lovely condition in keeping with everything else on the car.

The Austin A40 Somerset was produced by the Austin Motor Company from 1952 until 1954. The A40 Somerset replaced the Austin A40 Devon and, as a body-on-frame car, it was comparable in size to its predecessor.
It shared a number of components with the Devon, including its similar 1.2-litre straight-four pushrod engine. The Somerset's engine was updated to produce 42 hp compared to the Devon's 40 hp, giving the car a very respectable top speed of 70 mph.

The pictures show how well the engine has been maintained, and the simplicity of the Austin A Engine is a mechanic's dream!
Over 173,000 Somersets were sold before being superseded by the A40 Cambridge in 1954.

The car is in very good condition and with these becoming a very rare sight on today's roads, it gives the prospective buyer the opportunity to own a rare piece of classic motoring at a very affordable price.
