1968 MGC Roadster £27,995

As can be seen, this MGC Roadster has undergone an exceedingly high-end restoration. Approximately 100 photographs stage by stage of a bare metal respray, all finished in raucous Tartan Red.

This fabulous restoration car is accompanied British Heritage Certificate confirming a matching number automobile. Amongst its long list of first-rate credentials are its Mohair convertible roof, five chrome spoke wheels (fitted with 5 Michelin sports tyres), a stainless steel exhaust, and a fabulous black leather interior with red piping.

The MGC was a 2912cc, straight-six version of the MGB, sold from 1967 and produced until August 1969 - the last few sales running on into 1970.

The car - given the model code ADO52 - was intended as a replacement for the Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III, which would have been ADO51 but in that form never got beyond the design proposal stage.

The first engine to be considered was an Australian-designed six-cylinder version of the BMC B-Series but the production versions used a new seven-main-bearing development of the Morris Engines designed C-Series that was also to be used for the new Austin 3-litre four-door saloon. In the twin SU carburettor form used in the MGC, the engine produced 145 bhp (108 kW) at 5,250rpm.

The body shell needed considerable revisions around the engine bay and to the floor pan, but externally the only differences were a distinctive bonnet bulge to accommodate the relocated radiator and a teardrop modification for carburettor clearance.

The new version had different brakes from the MGB, 15-inch wheels with Pirelli Cinturato 165HR15 tyres, a lower geared rack-and-pinion for sportier handling, and special torsion bar suspension with telescopic dampers to complete the upgrade to the driving experience.

Like the MGB, the MGC was available as either a Coupé (GT) or a Roadster. An overdrive gearbox or three-speed automatic gearbox were available as options.

The car was capable of 120 mph and put in a 0-60 mph time of 10.0 seconds.

The car comes with four binders of service records and receipts from throughout the car's entire life. A lovely six-cylinder exhaust note - just sitting behind the steering wheel of this MGC you realise you're in something really special.

With just 2000 right hand drive examples made for the UK market, this is a stunning example of a rare excellent sports car, so genuine enquiries only please. If you have to ask the wife don't bother coming!
