Craner classics are delighted to offer this stunning rover 2000tc. This is a rare crossover model from 1973 when the 2200 had been launched but rover had a surplus of 2000tc engines. To encourage people to buy the older engine, these cross over cars were fitted with many extras from the factory, in the case of this car, it has sundym glass, 3500s wheel trims, 3500 front arm rests (they're longer than the 2000 ones), the 3500s steering wheel (very rare and sought after) and thr large HS8 carbs. Its a 2000 chasis and bidy with a 2200 interior; offically tan box pleat leather seats with tan trim and door cards.

It was sold to a businessman on The Mall in London in 1973, then sold again five years later and ended up in Blyth, Northumberland, with an elderly couple. When the husband died, his wife registered it in her name. The couple across the street made her an offer, and in 1994 it became theirs. It was laid up in 2002 but driven occasionally until around 2008. The car changed hands once more after the husband died, was bought and trailered to Derbyshire, where it was recommissioned and became a daily driver, even appearing in a couple of film background shots.

It’s on the road with an MOT until next May and is tax exempt. Runs beautifully and has had all new brakes front and back over the past eight years (the rear ones rebuilt by Clive Annable), carbs stripped and rebuilt, new alternator, new speedometer cable, new clutch, gearbox rebuild (with new bushes and seals), new head gasket, top-end engine rebuild, undersealed, new sill covers, halogen headlights. It’s a 1973 model with some history, including the original handbook with notes from previous owners and receipts for parts purchased. It’s an exceptionally original car, maintained regardless of cost until the lay-up. We know this because the engine was so clean when Clive Annable did the top-end rebuild that he questioned whether it had an engine change—it hasn’t; all the numbers for the chassis, engine, and gearbox match.

The Rover 2000TC wasn’t restored for profit but as a true labour of love. Over £3000 was spent on parts alone, with all panels removed except the roof. Every panel, apart from the floor and doors, was stripped to bare metal and repainted in its original Lunar Grey, with the shell fully exposed. The boot was stripped, minor repairs carried out, and everything cleaned and re-rust-proofed. New rubber boot seals, mats, and carpets were fitted, and all panels were aligned to a high standard with perfect lines. All brightwork was re-chromed, with invoices included in the history file.

The engine bay was detailed to a high standard and mechanically checked, with new oil, filter, plugs, points, leads, radiator, hoses, exhaust manifold, and exhaust installed. It also has new rear springs, gear selector bushes, Dunlop tyres, front brake pads, front callipers, brake pipes, a new master cylinder, a new brake servo, and a new Lucas battery. The Rover TC has a current MOT until 30/12/26, and the car has had thousands of pounds and hundreds of man-hours invested to bring it to this first-class condition. The interior is simply stunning, fitted with a 3.5S leather interior that looks magnificent and perfectly suits the colour combination. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a Rover TC, now ready for viewing at our Ruddington showroom, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
