1974 Vauxhall Victor £12,495

Craner Classics are delighted to announce the readiness for sale of this beautifully restored 1974 Vauxhall Victor, with just one former keeper from new before the present seller.

The car contains its original Bill of Sale bearing the first owner's name, Mr L Stayton of Hertfordshire, who purchased the Victor from Marlboro Motors GM Vehicle Specialist at a cost of £1,438.31 more than half a century ago. The original order sheet for the car is also present.

As the photographs show, this particular Vauxhall Victor is in incredible condition - we have never seen one of these restored to such a high standard, and they are now fast increasing in value as a popular 1970s muscle car.

The restorers went all-in on this one - right down to new window rubbers, with all the glass was removed from the car during the rebuild for a professional respray.

What was most striking for us was the inside of the car - the interior has been completely refurbished, including the dashboard and steering wheel, with plush new carpets and headlining.

Underneath the bonnet is also impeccable, almost surreal looking down at how much space there is, and those spotless inner arches, a delight for any mechanic or anyone with any worries whatsoever about buying a classic car.

Those inner wings and the outer ones have all been restored to show-winning standards, and as said the images are testimony that no corners have been cut. To cap it all the underside of the car is incredibly solid.

The odometer is reading a very credible 53,000 miles, also reassuring for buyers, and the powerful 2.3-litre straight four-cylinder engine performs as you would expect for a car which has been restored to the highest standards - responsively, capably, quietly. The sturdy four-speed manual gearbox delivers smooth changes on point as required.

There is a huge history file with all the car's old MOTs and invoices through its entire life, hence the car is accompanied by two hefty photograph albums full of photos of each stage of the restoration and snaps of the finished article, including how it found its way to the NEC motor show stand, where it received plenty of compliments and interest.

This has turned out to be such a rare motor car and all this history supplied with it, it's a real find. This particular Vauxhall Victor especially is a total pleasure to drive, wonderfully comfortable and a smooth enjoyable ride. Needless to say, keeping up with modern traffic is a breeze.

She looks good from every angle including the chrome work, and if you look closely you can see why this car occupied an almost-unique place amongst 1970s muscle cars - there are faint traces of later Cortina and Granada styling, hints of the Opel Manta in the stylish sweep of the rear end, even a likeness to 70s and 80s BMWs when seen in profile.

This is a super rare opportunity to acquire a truly iconic car of such a high standard - we just don't see them as good as this, a clearly much-cherished Vauxhall Victor, and completely ready for its third-ever owner, who should be proud to show this car anywhere.
